Ikram's Bronchopneumonia
I have not wrote for weeks..Ikram had what the doctor called bronchopneumonia. It's worse than Irfan.
Like what I have written before, Ikram had the fever for 10 days and he was given antibiotics (2 types) but none of it worked. On the 10th day of his fever (on a Friday), my mom said that he was no longer active and had loss his appetite.
I rushed home at noon, worried. When I arrived, Ikram was laying at the exact same position as I left him that morning. The last milk he had was the 5oz I left that morning. I panicked.
First I thought, I should bring him to a Paedaetrician, but my mom said. "Why bring to another clinic when we should bring him straight to the hospital?" So, just to be sure, we went back to the same clinic Ikram had been given treatment. And I requested the doctor to issue a referral letter to Selayang Hospital. I also reminded him to put in the details of my first visit (the 1st day Ikram had his fever) and the medication prescribed.
At 2pm, we arrive at the A&E. Luckily we had the referral letter. It made the process easier as I don't have to explain a dozen times.
Ikram, checking his bed. "Not bad." he said. The best thing about staying in Selayang (I don't know about other hospitals) is that the guardian/ mother were given our own bed to sleep in. So, I had no backache during the 5 days stay. Meals were not only given to the patient but also given to guardians. Thank goodness.
The first night, Ikram was only given antibiotics (via tiub), drip because he had loss his appetite. He needed water to keep hydrated and energy. He was also given neb (gas) every 6 hours. Poor guy.
The second day, the Paedaetrician reports that his breathing is faster and they could hear wheezing sounds from his lungs, so they decided to move him to another room (a much more critical room). Oxygen was given and neb had to increase to 2 hourly.
My neighbour's son was also admitted in that hospital. Ustazah Hasmah. So I was not lonely there. I had a few chats there and then.
Look at all the wires. Goodnight, everyone. Tok chu gave Ikram an Elmo balloon and he loved it. He even brought it to bed.
There was this other patient. A girl, 7 months old. She has got seizure (fit) without her parent noticing it. She was unconscious even at hospital. Her mother was always crying. She even got the seizure while she was in the hospital (it last for an hour). She had her oxygen 24 hours. Her mother had to do suction for her. I can't imagine if I were in her position.
Another patient, Sakinah and Lan. They are the Orang Asli from Sungai Siput. Sakinah had kidney problems. She's only 5 years old and had to go through all the tests, suffer and pain. Poor girl. She had been in the hospital for 3 months. I really pity the girl. Her mother came to talk to me. She had another child at home, age 3 years old with yellow fever. She hadn't talk to her family for weeks. I lent her my mobile.
The last day of our stay, we bought Sakinah a colouring book and colour pencil. She brought it everywhere with her.
Hope for Ikram to get better.

But Ikram was really impatient.. the doctor attend to us, and asked to do an x-ray of his lungs and blood test. The blood test came out normal but the x-ray showed that his lungs was infected. They diagnosed him with bronchopneumonia. At first the doctor didn't want to admit him but after some arguing..ermm. not arguing, I'm not that kind...I was just discussing and confirming a few facts, that finally the doctor refered Ikram to a specialist and later admitted to ward 8B.
Registered in Ward 8B at 7 pm.
